big blue backyard is an evolving dream for owners Paul and Lisa Dempsey. After travelling the world, Paul and Lisa began to create big blue backyard in St. Andrews Beach offering simple, luxurious hideaways set amongst forest of ti-tree.

Connected to the main house and hub of the busy "big blue kitchen" by boardwalks, the secluded hideaways were built to blend into the natural beauty of St. Andrews Beach.

It is Paul and Lisa's great pleasure to welcome you to this paradise, to feed you yummy food and to make sure you have the best stay.

hideaways
"Unbelievable hideaways, unexpected luxury, unlike anything else…"

big blue backyard is tucked away on the Mornington Peninsula, abutting the national park the hugs the wild, often deserted St Andrews beach on the Bass Straits.   The luxury hideaways are nestled into a canopy of ti-trees, providing a secluded setting to unwind and relaxed .

Creative attention to detail makes this modern romantic escape so totally different.  Choose between the vibrant African hideaway or the Beach hideaway inspired by the ocean.  These spacious, refreshingly simple hideaways,  both completely private, ensure that your stay at big blue backyard will be a delicious experience.

about the kitchen
It's big,  it's blue and we are very busy in it!

Up until now, aside from creating delicious meals for our hideaway guests,  big blue kitchen has been involved in a catering service to the whole of the Peninsula.  Paul & Lisa have decided to focus on  catering exclusively for Five Sons Estate Vineyard in Dromana, providing their fabulous relaxed meze style platters on weekends and the whole of January and providing delicious menu's for their private functions.

about Paul - Chef of the world
Paul’s extensive travel and training has allowed him to soak up the cuisine of many cultures, and his cooking is inspired by these experiences. From mastering Mediterranean cooking alongside a traditional Greek chef on the tip of the Pelopennese (Greece), to running a five-star bush kitchen in Zululand, Paul gained a wealth of experience that compliments his traditional training base. Paul uses local and local organic produce whenever it is available

about Lisa
Lisa started waitressing at 13 at the local steak house in her home town in South Africa - her destiny was set, from there! 'Hospitality' has taken her around the world to work in unique destinations, meet sensational people and allow her to develop her own special warm welcoming style of service.

A list of amenities for Big Blue Backyard

It may be difficult to drag yourself away from big blue backyard's stunning hideaways, yet if you manage to do so, you'll find a range of attractions to enjoy on the Mornington Peninsula.

Superb Vineyards
Our favourite suggestions for this season are:

Five Sons Estate, 85 Harrisons Road, Dromana, 5987 3137 (weekends only and every day in January) – award winning wines and catering by us!

Ten minutes by Tractor, Mornington-Flinders Road, Main Ridge, 59896080 – newest cellar door on the block – apparently the food is fab – if you can get in!

Montalto Vineyard, Shoreham Road, Red Hill South, 5989 8412 – a must see vineyard – and if you can have a meal – lunch or dinner, the kitchen is phenomenal.
