Our architecturally designed cottages are perfect for a romantic getaway, each offer seclusion and are nestled privately amongst the trees. Glass doors open to a wrap around veranda with bush and valley views, the perfect place for an evening BBQ or just laze in the hammock and listen to the birds as the sun sets through the trees.
The main living area offers a gourmet kitchen, log fire, lounge and dining area surrounded by glass allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the Australian bush.
The huge spa bath can wash away city stress and the master bedroom with deluxe bedding will keep you cosy while you watch the dawn rise.
Bedding Arrangements Each of the six cottages sleeps up to 5 adults comfortably with a queen bedroom downstairs and a loft bedroom with a double bed and a single bed. One of our cottages has an additional single bed in the loft and is able to sleep up to 6 adults. A roll-away bed may be used for an additional child in any of the cottages.
Wheelchair Friendly Accommodation We have one cottage which is suitable for wheelchair access and offers disabled friendly facilities. Including separate spa and shower, waist height light switches and power points, wider doorways and sloping walkways for access to the cottage. If you would like more information on these facilities please feel free to contact us.
Self Catering We are a self catering retreat and have provided each cottage with all the tools and supplies necessary to create delicious meals. A small but comprehensive supermarket is available 10 minutes away in Bulahdelah and a much larger Bi-Lo is open in Tea Gardens but we encourage our guests to bring any specialty items with them from home. We also have a limited quantity of kitchen "basics" that can be purchased and special kitchen equipment can usually be provided on request.
Meal Packages Sometimes only a prepared meal will do and for those times we offer guests the opportunity to pre-order a Breakfast Basket, Picnic Hamper, BBQ Dinner Pack or Gourmet Dinner Pack from our menu. For those guests looking for a meal out, there are some excellent lunch choices in Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest and Bulahdelah offers a few establishments full of local colour. A list of nearby eating establishments is available onsite.
Reception Building and Cabana Guests looking for a novel to read by the fire or a wildlife guidebook to identify the bird outside their bedroom need go no further than our central reception and cabana buildings. There is a comprehensive reading library of fiction and reference books and information on activities available in the local area. In addition, there is a collection of DVD's and CDs that are available for guests to borrow.
Eco-Objectives Bombah Point Eco Cottages is committed to operating on ecologically sustainable principles and to being proactive in restoring and maintaining the unique landscape of the local environment. We aim to demonstrate that the environmentally conscious concepts embraced here are available for all types of development, whether a terrace in the city or a bush retreat, without compromising comfort or being too costly.
Sustainable Foundations A holiday resort with minimal environmental impact is not necessarily an oxymoron! By beginning with ecologically sound ideals and working on them throughout the construction phase then it can become a reality.
While there are certainly challenges to overcome, a bit of creative thinking and dedication helps local councils and energy providers embrace new or alternate technologies. Initial set up costs can appear prohibitive but there are often long term financial gains and governments offer some incentives with their Greenhouse Reduction commitments.
Minimal Waste & Resource Use Our large permaculture garden provides, with the help of chooks and recycled kitchen waste, fresh seasonal vegetables and herbs for our use and for our guests. We use renewable and recyclable products where possible, provide recycling bins and compost most food waste on site. We have set up tertiary treatment of sewage using a bioreactor system, which incorporates worm composting and reed bed filtration. Filtered rainwater tanks provide the cottages with water.
Electricity Electricity is generated on site with 48 high yield solar panels set up on four light sensitive sun trackers. During the day the system generates power that is fed back on to the local grid system and our electricity meter actually turns backwards. When the sun sets we begin to draw power back from the grid, offsetting our daytime contribution, and the meter moves forward. We estimate that the solar panels supply 60% of our power and by selling power back to the energy supplier we will offset the establishment costs associated with such a large solar array over a period of 5 to 7 years.
Working for the local environment: Our aim is to form a buffer zone for our neighbour, The Myall Lakes National Park, so we are working on land restoration, and bush regeneration as vegetation is a natural pollution filter for the fragile lakes system. We intend to work closely with the National Parks & Wildlife Service, local agriculturists and local environmental groups to improve the health of the surrounding eco-system and help secure the future of the area. We are removing feral plants and animals. Our fire damage control includes four dams, fire breaks, a large bore water reservoir and rooftop sprinklers to the cottages.
